Zaria Local Government Area is located in Kaduna State, Nigeria, and is historically known as Zazzau, one of the original seven Hausa city-states. The city serves as the capital of the Zazzau Emirate Council.
Zaria is a major educational center and is home to Ahmadu Bello University, one of the largest universities in Africa, along with several other research and educational institutions.
The LGA has an area of 563 km² and a population of 736,000 (2021 estimate). Commerce, education, agriculture, and trading activities contribute significantly to the economy of the LGA.
